Our Jewelry Designers

David Welty: David received his Masters' Degree in Design from the University of Minnesota, has taught jewelry design and has been a goldsmith for 20 years.  David's designs have a timeless style and a classic look that bring people back year after year.  The attention to detail given each piece reflects the art of a master jeweler.  His custom work, handmade on the island of Maui, is sought-after by discriminating collectors from around the world.

David Haake: David has been creating unique art items on Maui since 1981. His mediums of choice are all types of ivory, karat gold, sterling silver and exotic hardwoods.  In addition to being an excellent goldsmith for Jessica's Gems, Dave also serves as Production Manager, Art Director, and craftsman for Lahaina Scrimshaw, our sister store. Just about everything in our stores has been touched by Dave's hands in one way or another.  During his "off hours" he hand carves Hawaiian-style ivory fishhook pendants and does handle conversion on several lines of pocketknives. In response to customer requests, Dave has made everything from ivory crucifix to pistol grips.  A natural artistic talent and attention to detail are apparent in everything he does.  Born in Jersey City, NJ in 1956, Dave worked in a variety of blue collar-type jobs before moving to Maui in 1981, where he discovered the artist within himself.  He lives below the slopes of Haleakala in Kihei with his wife, Gracie.

Catherine Conarroe: Catherine "Cici" moved to the Hawaiian Islands from Victoria, BC, Canada in 1979 after vacationing on Oahu and falling in love with the beauty of Hawai'i.  She has been helping design jewelry for over 15 years for Jessica's Gems.  Her designs have an island flare and display her love for the flora and fauna that are so abundant here in Hawai'i.
